FAQ

Account Changes or Requests

If there is a change of ownership to your property, it’s crucial to keep your records updated with IWK. Here’s what you should do:

  • Notify IWK: Inform IWK about the change of ownership through eSubmission in the IWK Customer Portal. Failure to do so will result in billing based on the existing records.

  • Provide Required Documentations: To facilitate the change of ownership, please submit the following documents:

    • Relevant pages from the Sales and Purchase Agreement, including the date of agreement, names of the vendor(s) and purchaser(s), postal address of the premise, and the signature page signed by both parties

    • Annual Assessment Bill with the name of the registered owner and the premise address

  • Liability for Charges: The purchaser is responsible for paying all sewerage services charges for the premises, unless prior notice has been given to IWK regarding the sale or transfer. It’s essential for the purchaser to confirm that there are no outstanding or unpaid sewerage services bills associated with the premise, and all such bills are settled during the sales and purchase transaction.

If you are no longer a tenant at a premise served by IWK, please make sure to follow these steps:

  • Settle Sewerage Charges: Ensure that you have fully settled all sewerage charges for the entire period of your tenancy.

  • Unsubscribe e-Bill. If you have subscribed to IWK’s e-Bill services, make sure to unsubscribe and remove the Sewerage Account Number from your Customer Portal after you have settled the bills in full.

  • Notify IWK: Send an email to IWK at care@iwk.com.my informing the date of your last tenancy.

By following these steps, you will ensure a seamless transition from being a tenant to having no further financial or account-related obligations with IWK.

If your property has been vacant, it’s important to understand the regulations and how to notify IWK:

Commencing 1 January 2023 (as stipulated in the Sewerage Service Charges Regulations 2022), vacant premises will be charged as follows;

  • Vacant with active water meter: You will be charged the minimum sewerage fees according to your premise classification. This minimum charge covers the cost of maintaining and operating the sewerage system from your premises to the sewage treatment plant, even if the premises are unoccupied.

  • Vacant without active water meter: There are no charges for the period of vacancy if you have disconnected the water meter.

To qualify for vacant classification, you will need to provide the following documents:

  • Water Statement or Water Bill: A clear copy of water statement or water bill issued by the water operator or building management. This statement should display the water meter information and reading details for a continuous vacant period of at least 6 months, with a total water consumption of up to 1 cubic meter (1m3). This demonstrates that your property has had minimal usage during the vacant period.

  • Letter Confirming Water Termination: A letter confirming water termination from water works or building management. This letter should clearly state the date when the water meter was disconnected.

If your premise has been classified as low-cost by the Local Authority, you are eligible for a monthly sewerage charge of RM2.00. If your current billing category is different from the low-cost classification, you should follow these steps to notify IWK:

  • Provide Relevant Documentations: To initiate the process, provide IWK with the following documents:

    • Relevant pages from the Sales and Purchase Agreement, including the date of agreement, names of the vendor(s) and purchaser(s), postal address of the premise, the page that shows the premise type and the signature page signed by both parties.

    • A confirmation letter issued by your Local Authority, clearly indicating that your premise is classified as a low-cost premise.

  • Site Visit:After receiving the documents mentioned above, IWK will coordinate a site visit carried out by our field service officer. The purpose of this visit is to confirm, with the help of photographs, that the mentioned premise is indeed classified as a low-cost premise.

If your premise’s classification has changed, for example: from domestic to commercial or commercial to industrial, you can request a reclassification of you billing. Please note that this request is subject to confirmation by IWK’s field service officer and should be accompanied by the following documents that reflect the current status of the premise, depending on the classification change:
